It’s all for the show

Robert Ursan enjoys reading books and newspapers, learning about the foolishness of political leaders. But he doesn’t have much free time. Considering the accomplished pianist, director, singer and composer spends every waking hour creating the music he’s become so renowned for, it’s understandable.“It’s kind of all-consuming,” Ursan laughed. “And yes, I’m just a little bit obsessed by the whole music theatre thing. It really hasn’t allowed me much time for life.”Born and raised in Regina, Ursan began taking piano lessons from Regina piano teacher Dorothy Bee when he was 10 years old. Bee was constantly calling the Ursan household, asking Ursan’s parents to remind him that he wasn’t allowed to make changes to the music he was asked to play, even if he thought it sounded better with his modifications.Ursan left the province to attend Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio, and then the University of Toronto. From Toronto he moved to Europe to attend the Royal Scottish Academy in Glasgow, Scotland. While overseas he had the opportunity to perform with numerous companies in the months between semesters.To read the rest of this article click here.
