All classes feature age-appropriate class activities balancing creativity with structured/planned games and activities.

Details

Musical Theatre Classes: Through fun-filled activities and engaging storytelling, our experienced instructors will guide them in learning the basics of singing, dancing, and acting. From classic show tunes to original choreography, our young performers will develop their confidence, teamwork skills, and self-expression while exploring the exciting world of musical theatre. Enroll your little star today and let the magic of musical theatre ignite their imagination! No previous experience is necessary.

New age groups for spring sessions:

  • 6-8 year olds, 2 offerings

    • Class A @ 9:00 am, 45 minutes, 8 spots total

    • ***FULL - Email diwclass@gmail.com for waitlist*** Class B @ 10:00 am, 45 minutes, 8 spots total

  • 9-10 year olds

    • 11:00 am, 60 minutes, 12 spots total

  • 11-12 year olds

    • 12:30 pm, 60 minutes, 12 spots total

  • 13+ (if enough interest)

    • 2:00 pm, 60 minutes, 8 students per class

  • Low student-to-teacher ratios, only 8-12 spots per class

  • Sessions run for 8 weeks

    • Spring: April 13-June 8, 2024 (no class May 18th) - Registration opens Feb

  • Fees are due at registration. The cost is $200 and includes a t-shirt and a pair of tickets to one of our 2024-25 productions. Returning students save 10%.

  • Classes will be in our new permanent space at 611 Park Street

  • A showcase will be held on the last day of classes for families and supporters to come to watch what has been learned and created.


Here's what your child can expect from our exciting new theatre classes:
1. Developing Confidence: Our classes are designed to help children build self-confidence by encouraging them to explore their unique talents and abilities. Through a variety of fun-filled activities, including improvisation, storytelling, and character-building exercises, your child will learn to trust their instincts and step out of their comfort zone.
2. Cultivating Creativity: We believe that creativity is key to a child's development. Our theatre classes provide a creative outlet for your child to express themselves through movement, voice, and emotions. Through collaborative projects and theater games, your child will unleash their imagination and discover the joy of creative thinking.
3. Building Communication Skills: Theatre is all about effective communication, and our classes focus on honing your child's communication skills. From active listening to clear articulation, your child will learn to express themselves confidently and effectively. These skills will benefit them not only on stage but also in their everyday lives.

Creative Movers

Instructor: Chloe Brûlé-Head

Chloe started taking classes in voice, musical theatre, and dance at age 3. She has trained in musical theatre, tap, jazz, contemporary, ballet, pointe, modern, and lyrical dance styles. She has won various dance scholarships and has participated in summer dance intensives at the Alberta Ballet School Professional Division and

the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School. Chloe also studies classical voice and has won scholarships for singing in Italian, French, German, and Spanish. She is an Assistant Teacher for junior musical theatre at the Martin School of Dance and Baton. Chloe loves to perform on and off stage and looks forward to sharing her love of dance with you!

Musical Theatre Instructor: Aminah Tayapad

Hi, I’m Aminah Tayapad, I’ve been in the arts since I could walk and I have experience in all things musical theatre. I am so thrilled to be helping teach the next generation of artists to become inspired and grow!

Musical Theatre Instructor: Nania van der Merwe

Nania van der Merwe is a grade 12 student entering her sixth season with DIWC young people’s theatre.  She has taken voice lessons with the artistic director, Robert Ursan, for five years. Additional to this training, she has studied violin at the Conservatory of Performing Arts since she was four(RCM 8 certified). At her school, Nania is heavily involved in all things music; she is the SLC arts director, a prominent figure in the musical theatre program, a choir section leader, and a french horn player in the band. DIWC has shaped Nania into the actress and performer she is today, and she is excited to explore theatre from a mentor’s perspective.
